This Kowhai is famous for its beautiful brilliant yellow racemes of nectar-rich flowers, which appear in early spring and is a favourite food for New Zealand native birds such as
the Tui and Wood Pigeon.
The Kowhai Dragons Gold grows around 1.5 metre tall x 1 metre in width.
It is an evergreen variety producing greenish yellow leaves over a long period from winter
until mid spring. Due to the size of the Dragons Gold it is perfect for both pot planting or
into the main garden.
Kowhai is widespread throughout New Zealand, found in open forest, alongside rivers and forest edges up to 800 metres above sea level.
