7 Gorgeous Ideas for Celebrating Baby Milestones

New parents are frequently told to celebrate all the little baby milestones they can by generations of parents before them. Blink and you’ll miss it, they’ll be starting school before you know it, and they’ll grow up all too soon are commonly heard. Yet the early years of parenting are for most a time of sleep deprivation and not enough time to get everything done. So, while baby milestones are celebrated in person when they occur, these moments are often not captured for future reminiscences.

That’s where the idea of deliberately taking photos at set milestones became popular, with parents and family using printed baby milestone cards in photos to keep track of baby’s progress. But it soon became clear that parents and grandparents were looking for new and creative ways to celebrate these milestones, and that’s where we can help!

Beautiful Ways to Celebrate Baby Milestones

Here are seven gorgeous ways to celebrate a baby’s milestones:

  1. Living trees – gift new parents (or parents to be) a living gift, a beautiful native tree. Once planted in the garden or in a pot, photos can be taken of Mum’s growing belly, or key moments in baby’s life. As the tree grows, it provides a special place for the family to meet, have a picnic with and compare its height with baby’s growth!

  2. Writing letters – write a short letter to baby at special milestones, sharing details about the day and what they were doing. Or you could set up an email address for baby to email them letters and photos for them to get access to when they are older.

  3. Favourite toys – capture photos of special moments with baby’s favourite toys, showing how much baby has grown over time.

  4. Blackboard – using a small blackboard, record baby’s current weight and height, newest achievement or favourite food, along with the date of course!

  5. Record voice notes – use your phone to store short recordings for baby, which as well as your words, you can also capture baby’s giggles, first words and cries. There are plenty of free apps you could use for this.

  6. Memory box – for each milestone, add a special item, handwritten note, photo or toy into a memory box. This makes a beautiful gift to give to your child when they turn 21.

  7. Hand and footprints – those tiny fingers and toes grow very quickly, so for each milestone, use a mess free ink pad or nontoxic finger paint to capture those cute little hand and footprints onto a canvas or in a special notebook.
