Our Eco Commitment

At Tree Gifts NZ, caring for the planet is at the heart of what we do. We’re dedicated to creating eco-friendly gift boxes and are always finding new ways to enhance our sustainability efforts and minimise waste. Here are just a few of the steps we’re taking:

Our Eco-Friendly Packaging

Our custom-made wooden gift boxes are crafted here in New Zealand from sustainably sourced recycled pine. Designed to last, they can be reused or repurposed around the home or office long after the gift has been enjoyed.

We believe reusing and repurposing items is the most effective way to reduce waste and save the energy used in recycling processes.

Our motto says it best: Reuse. Repurpose. Recycle.

Some great reuse ideas:

  • Keep in the garage or workshop for tools and bits & pieces

  • Let the kids decorate them as toy boxes

  • Use the sliding gift boxes as organisers or pencil cases

To protect your trees, we use 100% biodegradable natural hessian and biodegradable cellophane made from plant-based cellulose, not plastic. This material safely breaks down in compost within 1–3 months (even faster than cardboard!).

All printed materials are produced on recycled paper and card, and our wood wool packaging is made from untreated pine, which can be reused in the garden - it’s great under strawberries or around plants to deter bugs naturally.

We also reuse packaging from our suppliers wherever possible for larger or corporate orders and encourage our customers to do the same.

Our hand creams and body lotions come in either glass jars or recyclable plastic bottles (classification <1>). More importantly, these containers are perfect for reuse around the home before eventually being recycled.

At Tree Gifts, we’re committed to doing our part for a greener planet - one sustainable gift at a time.

Why Trees Are Essential 💚

As the longest-living organisms on our planet, trees are Earth's most valuable natural resource. They provide a staggering array of benefits that directly impact our daily lives:

  • Environmental Guardians: Trees are nature’s air filters. Beyond cleaning our air, they are vital for improving water quality, preventing erosion, and even reducing noise pollution.

  • Community Support: They create essential shade and shelter and provide food for countless families and wildlife.

The Incredible Carbon Impact

Think about your car: one mature tree can absorb the same amount of carbon per year as a car driving 41,890 kilometres! To put that in perspective for New Zealanders, that's like driving from Cape Reinga to Bluff—and back again—ten times over!

  • Did You Know? The average person uses paper products equivalent to two full pine trees annually.

Meet Tāne Mahuta: The God of the Forest

New Zealand is the proud home of the majestic Tāne Mahuta (Māori for "God of the Forest"), our oldest known tree. Located in the Waipoua Forest, this colossal Kauri is a living monument, estimated to be between 1,250 and 2,500 years old. Its name honours the Māori god of forests and birds, representing the powerful connection between nature and heritage.
